Abstract

This study analyzes the role of Green Entrepreneur Capability, Work Time Flexibility, and Green Innovation in the development of creative Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Sidoarjo. The core research problem revolves around the urgent need for sustainable business transformation amidst global environmental challenges, recognizing the crucial role of MSMEs, despite varying levels of understanding and implementation of green entrepreneurship in Sidoarjo. Employing a qualitative methodology with a phenomenological approach, this research aims to delve into the profound meanings and perspectives of 11 informants from creative MSMEs, the Sidoarjo Creative MSME Association, and the Sidoarjo Cooperative and MSME Office. Informants were meticulously selected through purposive sampling. Data collection involved in-depth interviews, direct observation, and documentation, subsequently analyzed using NVivo 15 Plus through data reduction, display, and verification. Triangulation was utilized to ensure data credibility. The findings indicate that Green Entrepreneur Capability significantly enhances MSME competitiveness and sustainability by fostering an awareness of environmental sustainability as a value-creating business strategy. Notable examples include the biofloc system in catfish farming and the processing of waste into new products in the handicraft sector. Furthermore, Work Time Flexibility positively impacts MSME competitiveness and sustainability by enabling entrepreneurs to adjust their work rhythm without compromising productivity. This is exemplified by Darmawan Abbas's ability to balance business focuses and Fery Hidayat's remote work capacity, both contributing to improved work-life balance and expanded Green Innovation opportunities. Lastly, Green Innovation demonstrably boosts MSME competitiveness and sustainability through various environmentally friendly product and process innovations. These include the use of electric stoves and ecoprint in batik production, and the utilization of production waste. Such innovations generate economic added value and open new market opportunities, supported by positive market responses. These three elements interact synergistically to form an adaptive, innovative, and environmentally friendly MSME business model. However, the study also identified persistent obstacles, such as capital limitations, difficulties in sourcing appropriate materials, marketing challenges, and a lack of effective external support, which necessitate targeted policy support.
