Abstract
Global energy needs continue to increase along with population growth and rapid economic development. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA) report, world energy consumption is expected to continue to increase in the coming decades. Amidst these challenges, renewable energy, especially wind energy, has emerged as a promising alternative to meet sustainable energy needs. The Savonius turbine is one type of wind turbine that is widely used, especially in areas with low wind speeds. The purpose of this study was to determine the extent to which wind speed and number of blades affect the performance of the Savonius type wind turbine, especially in terms of rotation efficiency and output power generated. In addition, this study also aims to analyze the performance comparison between two blade shapes, namely the L type and the vertical spiral, in order to determine the most optimal blade angle in capturing wind energy optimally. Based on the test results and calculations, the highest generator power value was obtained on the 2 L blade with a value of 10.79 W. Increasing the number of blades on average will reduce the generator power. The generator power on the L type blade is greater than the spiral blade. The highest turbine power value is obtained on 4 spiral blades with a value of 3.96 W. The lower the wind speed, the lower the turbine output power value. Increasing the number of blades on average will increase the turbine output power. The turbine output power on the spiral type blade is greater than the L blade. The highest turbine input power value is obtained on the 4 spiral blades with a value of 11.87 W. The lower the wind speed, the lower the turbine input power value. Increasing the number of blades on average will increase the turbine input power. The turbine input power on the spiral type blade is greater than the L blade. The highest turbine efficiency value is obtained on the 2 spiral blades with a value of 68.4%. The lower the wind speed, the lower the turbine efficiency value. Increasing the number of blades on average will decrease the turbine efficiency. The turbine efficiency on the spiral type blade is greater than the L blade.
