Abstract
Pemahaman akan budaya penting sebagai dasar mendefinisikan sebuah budaya populer. Berbeda dengan makna budaya yang secara umum terkadang terkotak pada sebuah budaya tinggi dan terkait etika, budaya populer lahir sebagai bentuk konsumsi hiburan bagi masyarakat dan wadah untuk menikmati hiburan dengan cara yang membebaskan, seperti melalui musik, tarian, cerita, dan ekspresi lainnya. Jepang menjadi salah satu negara yang paling berpengaruh dalam penyebaran budaya populer, terutama melalui produk-produk hiburan visual seperti manga dan anime. Anime bukan hanya sekadar genre, animasi, maupun produk budaya Jepang semata. Sebaliknya, anime harus dipahami sebagai fenomena budaya yang maknanya bergantung pada konteks. Anime Kusuriya no Hitorigoto tidak hanya menonjol dari segi alur cerita dan karakterisasi, tetapi juga dari visualnya yang memanfaatkan berbagai bentuk ekspresi khas anime, salah satunya adalah penggunaan chibi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis bagaimana penggambaran visualisasi chibi dan bagaimana visualisasi ekspresi chibi pada tokoh Maomao dalam anime Kusuriya no Hitorigoto Season 1 Tahun 2023. Data yang digunakan berupa gambar dan dialog yang mengandung visualisasi chibi. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode kualitatif deskriptif dengan pendekatan konstruksionis. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori ekspresi wajah dari Gen Sato. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa chibi digunakan untuk mengekspresikan berbagai nuansa emosi Maomao seperti keterkejutan, kegembiraan, kecemasan, hingga sikap sinis secara berlebihan, sehingga memperkuat humor dan kedalaman karakter.
