Abstract

Adolescence is a transition period that makes teenagers experience physical, psychological, sexual, cognitive and social changes which can increase emotional tension, moods which can change at any time according to the teenager's condition. Teenagers' success in finding their identity will enable them to adapt to their social environment. Adolescents' adjustment to their social environment is obtained through a learning process from the experience of interacting with their social environment, by paying attention to social demands and expectations, so that adolescents can feel satisfaction with their lives. One of the factors that influences the low social adjustment of teenagers is the role of mass media. The use of technological advances also reduces opportunities to interact with people within their social distance. The goal that researchers want to achieve in this study is to find out whether there is a relationship between social adjustment and social media addiction in adolescents. The measuring instrument used in this research consists of two scales, namely the social media addiction scale and the social adjustment scale. The sample in this research were students at SMP 17 August 1945 Surabaya. The sampling technique in this study used a quota sampling technique whose number was determined using the Krecjie table so that 162 subjects were obtained. Data analysis used Spearman Rho, the results showed there was no relationship between social media addiction and social adjustment.
