Abstract
One form of information technology that has rapidly developed is social media. Iver time, social media has evolved from being a platform for communication, information seeking, entertainment, online buying and selling, and personal branding, to also serving as a means to help other online, a phenomenon known as online prosocial behavior. Online prosocial behavior can be influenced by an individual’s moral reasoning. This research employs a quantitative approach. The subject of this study are Generation Z individuals aged 18-24 years in Surabaya, involving 123 respondents selected through accidental sampling. Data collection methods in this study utilize the Likert scale, specifically the online prosocial behavior scale based on the theory of Eisenberg and Mussen (1989), and the moral reasoning scale based on the theory of Gerwitz (1992). The analysis technique used in this research is Spearman’ rho, wich yielded a correlation coefficient of 0.648 ad a significance lecel of p = 0.000 (p < 0.01), indicating a significant positive relationship between moral reasoning and online prosocial behavior. This means that the higher an individual’s moral reasoning, the more frequently the engage in online prosocial behavior.
