Abstract

Adolescents have specific tasks to accomplish at each stage of their development. Achievement motivation is essential for individuals to reach their set goals by exerting maximum effort. The level of achievement motivation can be observed in the efforts made. Low achievement motivation among junior high school students has become a concern for research. This study aims to determine whether there is a relationship between parental social support and achievement motivation in junior high school students. The population in this study was students from a private junior high school in Sidoarjo, with 204 students as participants. The researcher used a saturated sampling technique, which involved taking all the population in the research location. The data collection instrument used achievement motivation scales and social support scales. The data analysis technique used in this study was parametric statistics using product moment with the help of SPSS version 25 for Windows. The results of the data analysis showed a positive correlation between parental social support and achievement motivation in junior high school students, rxy=0.594 (p>0.05). The results of the analysis mean that the higher the parental social support provided, the higher the achievement motivation possessed by the students. The results of this study indicate that parental social support is an important factor in driving students' achievement motivation, and this research is expected to be a reference for teachers and parents to increase students' achievement motivation.
