Abstract

This study aims to analyze the representation of female stereotypes in the short film Demi Nama Baik Kampus (2021) using Roland Barthes' semiotic analysis approach. The film portrays several stereotypical images of women, such as the weak female character, dependence on social judgment, and being confined to traditional roles. By analyzing the visual and narrative signs within the film, this research identifies how certain symbols create meanings related to gender stereotypes. Using Barthes' theory of signs, the study examines both the denotative (literal meaning) and connotative (implied meaning) levels of the film, which convey social messages about the roles of women in society. The analysis shows that the film not only reinforces stereotypes about women but also critiques the societal expectations that limit women's freedom. In conclusion, Demi Nama Baik Kampus serves as a medium that both constructs and deconstructs gender stereotypes through the visual and narrative signs it presents.
