Abstract

Traditional gender stereotypes that prescribe how men and women should behave according to societal expectations place both sexes in a challenging position to express themselves authentically without feeling 'out of place'. Social media, widely used for disseminating gender issues, concurrently introduces new gender-related terms such as feminine energy, which has recently garnered attention from Indonesian influencers, notably on platforms like TikTok through the account @Feminiyou. This study examines the concept of feminine energy, initially introduced as a means to enhance self-relationships but increasingly popularized in dating advice, particularly concerning women's behavior in romantic relationships with men. Utilizing the theory of Multimodal Critical Discourse Analysis by Gunther Kress and Van Leeuwen, the research analyzes @Feminiyou's content on TikTok, which focuses on feminine energy concepts. The method used is qualitative descriptive with the approach of documentation, the study investigates how @Feminiyou's content reinforces traditional gender stereotypes by portraying feminine energy as a strategy to attract masculine men. The dataset comprises 12 videos from @Feminiyou, each with over 1 million views. Findings reveal a consistent representation of feminine energy perpetuating social norms and idealized portrayals of women based on traditional gender stereotypes.
