Abstract

This research is entitled "Analysis of the Reception of Ilkom Untag Surabaya Students Regarding the Lifestyle of Metrosexual Men in Instagram Account Posts @Bramastavrl". This study aims to find out the audience's reception regarding the lifestyle of metrosexual men in Verrel Bramasta's Instagram account posts. This research uses qualitative methods, with Stuart Hall's reception analysis theory which emphasizes three stages of significance, namely the Dominant Hegemonic Position, Negotiated Position, Oppositional Position. This approach allows researchers to dig deeper into the audience's reception of the metrosexual male lifestyle and challenge the perception of metrosexual men as a group of men who have sexuality disorders or commonly referred to as homosexual, bisexual, or gay. The results of the analysis of this study are divided into 3 positions, from 5 informants, placing their respective positions. Two informants placed a dominant hegemonic position, in which this position the audience fully accepted a message related to the metrosexual lifestyle in @bramastavrl's Instagram posts. Two informants also placed a negotiation position, where the audience accepted but also applied some exceptions with their own thoughts regarding the lifestyle of metrosexual men in @bramastavrl's Instagram posts. And one informant places an oppositional position, where the audience cannot accept messages related to the metrosexual male lifestyle in @bramastavrl's Instagram posts. This research confirms that each audience has a different reception in receiving and interpreting a message.
