Abstract
This research explores the use of WhatsApp sticker memes and how their use can fulfill various psychological and social needs according to Alfred Schutz's social phenomenology theory. Through interviews with several informants, it was found that WhatsApp sticker memes are used to express emotions, strengthen identity and social relationships, relieve emotional stress, and express affection. In the context of social phenomenology theory, the motive for using WhatsApp sticker memes is social interaction which is based on individual and social interpretation and subjectivity. In conclusion, WhatsApp sticker memes are not only an entertainment tool, but also function as a means of communication that fulfills various human needs, especially for communicating and constructing social constructions in the meaning of symbols. This research recommends that other academics explore memes from the perspective of different communication theories, such as personal branding or workshops, to understand more deeply the potential of memes as an effective communication tool.
