Abstract
The development of mass media, especially television, in Indonesia has recorded significant progress since the establishment of TVRI in 1962 and the emergence of private television stations in 1989. Television not only serves as an entertainment medium, but also as an important source of information, education, and social control in people's lives. The stiff competition among television stations for high ratings also affects program and marketing strategies. Television also has a significant social and economic impact in shaping popular culture and consumption behavior of the Indonesian people. This study aims to find out how the strategies that will be applied by producers to increase the ratings of the program Important Not Important on JTV Surabaya. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study type. This research uses Peter K. Pringle's strategic management theory in producing an event program, namely planning, organizing, directing, and supervising. Data collection is carried out by observation, in-depth interviews and documentation. The results of the study show that there is a compatibility between theory and practice in the field about strategy management used by the Producers of Essential Not Important JTV Surabaya in an effort to increase program ratings.
