Abstract

The research "Representation of Class Struggle in Uang Panai Film" by Asril Sani and Halim Gani Safia aims to analyze the representation of class struggle in the film. The focus is on how the story and characters in the movie show the class struggle in Bugis-Makassar society. The method used is Ferdinand de Saussure's semiotics and descriptive qualitative, which analyzes the dialogue through the concepts of signifier and signified as well as Langue and Parole. The data collected includes written and spoken words to understand social and economic phenomena. The results show that the movie "Uang Panai" depicts efforts to get a job, sacrifice for the family, cooperation during difficulties, and inspiration to keep fighting despite obstacles. In accordance with Karl Marx's theory of class struggle, the film emphasizes the importance of class consciousness, solidarity, and collective support to confront economic injustice and achieve social change.
