Abstract
This research discusses symbolic interaction among hardcore music fans, especially at the University of 17 August 1945 Surabaya. This research aims to find out and analyze the symbolic interactions that occur in the presence of symbols and messages seen from their clothing style, which is basically Hardcore which is classified as Underground music which is enjoyed by various groups and ages, including even in the lecture scope. In the city of Surabaya there are many people who like Hardcore music itself, seen by the existence of a community, the many Hardcore events and gigs every week, and the emergence of many young bands in the Hardcore genre from time to time. Moreover, the 17 August 1945 University was once the venue for the annual Hardcore music concert in Surabaya, namely SBHC #10, which took place in the Student Center building facilities. What certainly does not rule out the possibility is that hardcore music will become one of the favorite music among students at the University of 17 August 1945 Surabaya. The sources or informants for this research are students who have a tendency to like Hardcore music and they implement Hardcore music in their everyday way and style of dressing. This research uses a qualitative method using a symbolic interactionism theory approach and non-verbal concepts and artifactual concepts. The results of this research are that Hardcore music is a characteristic of their distinctive self-identity, they express themselves in the surrounding area using a distinctive way of dressing in relation to music. Hardcore, implementing their identity as fans of Hardcore music within the scope of lectures, as a way of giving support and encouragement to their favorite bands, and the non-verbal symbolic messages they want to convey through the use of the way Hardcore music fans dress.
