Abstract

Discord is an application used for online communication, particularly for coordinating teams in online games. In games like Valorant, a first-person shooter that requires effective communication among players, Discord facilitates coordination through message exchanges. These messages lead to effective communication aimed at enhancing gameplay quality. This study aims to analyze the extent to which Discord can be considered an effective communication tool in the Valorant gaming community to improve team coordination. The study employs a quantitative approach, with the population being the Discord group of the Valorant Indonesia ID community, comprising 81 respondents. The theoretical frameworks used are Groupthink Theory, Stimulus-Response (S-R) Theory, and Computer Mediated Communication (CMC) Theory. The study utilizes 12 indicators to measure the impact of effective communication and team coordination: Credibility, Context, Content, Clarity, Continuity and Consistency, Capability of Audience, Channels of Distribution, Coordinating, Communicating, Comforting, and Conflict Resolving. The results show that effective communication via Discord significantly positively impacts team coordination, with a regression coefficient of 0.662. This indicates that any improvement in communication effectiveness through Discord corresponds with a significant enhancement in team coordination. With an R-square value of 0.799, indicating that 79.9% of the variability in team coordination is accounted for by this model, it can be concluded that Discord is an effective communication tool for improving team coordination in the Valorant gaming community, supporting the Commputer Mediated Communciation (CMC) theory where Discord serves as a communication medium.
