Abstract

This research aims to explore the existence of hyper-reality in the social media content of the boy band Superkind on the Instagram account @playsuperkind using John Fiske's semiotic analysis. John Fiske's semiotic analysis is divided into three levels, namely the level of reality, the level of representation and the level of ideology. This research uses data triangulation, researchers use various data sources according to the truth by making observations on the objects being studied. This research found that Reels Superkind's uploads contain the meaning of hyperreality due to the use of virtual humans (AI). Analysis shows a new reality is created in Reels uploads, where a music group can be formed without all humans, but with the collaboration of AI characters. This benefits capitalism because it encourages consumption of content served through AI. Superkind's use of AI can be seen as a new breakthrough to increase popularity and reach a wider audience. This prompts questions about the limits of reality and how technology can manipulate our perceptions. This advantage is obtained because virtual humans cannot claim commercial profits such as through merchandise and endorsements. This shows the creation of a capitalist work culture that is obsessed with efficiency and productivity. Apart from thinking about the benefits gained from using AI, capitalism should also be able to think about the ethical consequences that need to be considered. The use of AI can create a feeling of isolation and loss of identity for fans. In other words, fans are starting to no longer be aware of the boundaries of existing reality. So that makes them trapped in a pseudo-reality that is not real. It is hoped that this research can provide knowledge and contribute to the development of research regarding the study of Semiotics topics. As well as practical recommendations for society to see the phenomenon of hyperreality as part of contemporary culture.
