Abstract

This research is motivated by the phenomenon of parasocial interactions among Generation Z in Surabaya, particularly within the preaching community of Majelis Subuh GenZI at Al-Akbar National Mosque in Surabaya. The presence of this community introduces a model of brotherhood formation through stages of interpersonal communication. This study is a descriptive qualitative research with data analysis techniques. Data collection was carried out using in-depth interviews, documentation, and observation. Data validity was ensured using data source triangulation. The results of this study demonstrate that interpersonal communication within the preaching community of Generation 2 is highly effective in building trust, closeness, and positive change through a profound spiritual approach. Interpersonal communication plays a crucial role in accommodating the interests of the Generation Z preaching community in Majelis Subuh GenZI. This community has experienced rapid development thanks to effective communication among its members. One interesting phenomenon that has emerged in Majelis Subuh GenZ1 is the parasocial relationship between study participants and celebrity preachers who are frequently invited to these events. The presence of celebrity preachers provides a unique appeal for Generation Z. They feel emotionally connected even though this relationship is one-way. Thus, Generation Z within this community has an identity that is closely aligned with Islamic values. Overall, the data obtained prove that interpersonal communication, in accordance with the Laswell communication model, is more effective in transforming individuals through a profound spiritual approach. This approach emphasizes that interpersonal communication based on spiritual values can encourage positive changes within individuals.
