Abstract

This research aims to find out the meaning of emoji use in the chat feature on the Shopee platform, with a descriptive study on Safalunaku online shop. Based on symbolic interaction theory, the research explores the use of emoji as symbols in digital communication to convey meaning and emotion. Data was collected through interviews with three consumers: Allissha, Indah, and Azha. The results show that the use of emoji adds expression, reduces ambiguity, and increases interaction in digital communication. Allissha thinks that emojis make conversations livelier and show the seller's attention. Azha considers emoji as an interesting element that enhances interaction and gives a friendly feel. Indah thinks that emojis clarify intentions and emotions, reduce misunderstandings, and make transactions smoother. This study concludes that the use of emojis in digital communication on Shopee provides significant meaning in the interaction between sellers and consumers and improves the quality of customer service. Practical and theoretical recommendations are also provided to improve the use of emojis in online business communication.
