Abstract

National Printing of the Republic of Indonesia or PERUM PNRI, is a state-owned enterprise working in the field of printing and publishing. The main function of Perum PNRI is as a government printing agency that is responsible for printing various official documents, such as diplomas, transshipments, and other materials of an official or legal nature. In addition, Perum PNRI also participates in the publication of books and other public printing materials. The problem with PERUM PNRI at present is the layout of the production facility, which does not take into account the proximity between the departments of the work station. The consequence of this situation is the transfer of too much material as well as increased material handling costs. The aim of this study is to redesign the new layout of the production facility to improve the efficiency of distance and material handling time as well as reduce the cost required. The method used in planning the layout of the production facility is systematic layout planning, which analyzes the level of proximity between departments using the activity relationship chart and activity relationship diagram to describe the departmental layout relative to each other. Hopefully, this research can provide improvement suggestions so that it can minimize the distance, time, and material costs of handling. The results obtained in this study were to shorten the distance of material transportation by 13.914,09 meters/month, or the equivalent of 32.88%, and to reduce the time of transportation by 166.90 minutes/moon, or the equivalent of 34.85%, as well as reduce the cost of handling material by Rs. 142.247 per month, or the equivalent of 32.57%.
