Abstract

Procrastination Procrastination is an individual's behavior of wasting time on activities that are actually less important, delaying the completion of specific tasks, and avoiding the initiation of activities that should be promptly accomplished. The tendency to postpone tasks can impact an individual's inability to achieve optimal performance, leading to emotional, physical, and academic consequences. This research aims to analyze the relationship between the fear of failure and academic procrastination in students working on their theses. The hypothesis proposed suggests a positive correlation between the fear of failure and academic procrastination in students composing their theses. The research design utilizes a quantitative correlational methodology, involving 241 participants, specifically students working on their theses at Universitas 17 Agustus 1945. The research instruments include the academic procrastination scale based on Tuckman's theory (1991), and for the fear of failure scale, it is derived from Conroy et al.'s theory (2002). The measurement tools used are the Fear of Failure Scale (21 items, α = 0.853) and Academic Procrastination Scale (11 items, α = 0.896). Data analysis involves Pearson product-moment correlation using SPSS Version 25 IBM for Windows. The results of the analysis indicate a correlation value of 0.667 with a significance level of P = 0.000 (p < 0.05), demonstrating a highly significant positive relationship between the fear of failure and academic procrastination in students working on their theses at Universitas 17 Agustus 1945.
