Abstract

The increasing crime and criminality in Indonesia, especially in several areas of Jakarta, the public is urged to always be aware of crimes around them. Crime cases in the Jakarta area continue to increase every year. DKI Jakarta Province is one of the metropolitan cities with a fairly high population density, so Jakarta is inseparable from crime cases. The crime that is rife today in the Kebayoran Lama area is motorcycle theft, although there are other crime cases that vary in number and type of cases. Theft is a criminal act committed by a person or group to take other people's property illegally or without the permission of the owner. Therefore, in this study the researcher raised the focus of the research studied in this thesis, namely, "How Is The Communication Strategy Of Kebayoran Lama Police Public Relations Through The Two-Way Symmetrical Communication Model In Educating The Public About Security?". This study used qualitative descriptive research method. The theoretical basis used by researchers is the Theory Of Excellence In Public Relations by James Grunig and Hunt. The results showed that the Public Relations of the Kebayoran Lama Police Station in carrying out a two-way symmetrical communication model communication strategy through several stages of characteristics of the public relations model, namely: 1) Mutual understanding through dialogue and exchange, 2) Two-way, balanced effect, 3) Person to person, 4) Evaluation of mutual understanding. Furthermore, the PR management process, namely: 1) Defining PR Problems, 2) Planning and Programming, 3) Taking Action and Communicating, 4) Evaluating Programs. The implication of this study is that the old Kebayoran Police Public Relations maximizes two-way communication and direct presence with the community, especially educational activities about security and increasing public relations personnel due to the small number of public relations personnel.
