Abstract

This research is motivated by the concerns of the youth in Prijek Lor Village regarding the low reading interest among children. The research aims to understand the literacy community's efforts in developing reading interest and identify supporting and inhibiting factors. The study focuses on the development of reading interest based on local culture by the literacy community in Prijek Lor Village. Communication ethnography is employed in this research to explore the communication dynamics in the process of developing reading interest among children in Prijek Lor Village. The findings of this research reveal the literacy community's efforts in developing reading interest through culturally based activity programs. The communicative situations that occur involve activities conducted in reading gardens, along with supporting and inhibiting factors in the literacy community's efforts to foster reading interest.
