Abstract

The welding process is an important part of the manufacturing technology industry. This cooling process is carried out on the material resulting from welding ST-42 steel using SAE-10W-30 oil cooling media. This process is useful for including welding and after that Heat Treatment is carried out using rapid cooling to obtain the desired properties, namely Hardening. From the cooling process, the maximum tensile stress value can be obtained which varies between current and welding speed, using a GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding) type welding machine. With current variations of 120 A, 130 A, and 140 A. The aim of this research is to determine the effect of variations in welding speed and current on the mechanical properties of the weld results. And also to be able to find out the best variation of welding speed and welding current from the three variations, each of which is carried out differently, namely: 55 mm/s, 52 mm/s, 49 mm/s and the welding current used, namely: 120 A, 130A, 140 A in GMAW welding results. The test on the low carbon steel main plate, namely "ST42", was carried out using maximum tensile stress testing and Brinell hardness testing. The largest maximum tensile stress is in Tensile Test Results with speed variations of 55mm/s, 52mm/s, and 49mm/s and current variations of 120A, 130A, and 140A. And the OLI SAE 10W�30 cooling medium has the greatest maximum tensile strength in welding, current 140A with specimen code G2 with a maximum tensile strength of 43.58 kg/mm2. And the lowest maximum tensile stress is in specimen code A2 at a current of 120 A of 33.14 kg/mm2. And the welding speed is 52mm/s. In the oil cooling media, the greater the feed current, the higher the maximum tensile stress, while for Brinell hardness testing, Brinell hardness testing is done by taking point samples in the Weld Metal, HAZ, Base Metal areas. And the highest value of HBN hardness is at a current of 130 A with specimen code D, and a welding speed of 55mm/s so that the hardness value obtained is 175.3 HBN in the weld metal area, and in the HAZ area the highest value is at a current of 120A in the specimen code. A with a welding speed of 55mm/s of 164 HBN. And in the highest base metal area, namely at a current of 130 A in specimen code E, with a welding speed of 52mm/s of 159 HBN.
