Abstract

Advances in information and communication technology have changed the pattern of communication. Now, finding information needs through the internet and social media is very easy. Information dissemination through Instagram social media is also carried out in various educational institutions, one of which is by Untag Surabaya where one of its study programs has an official Instagram account with the username @Komuntag. In order for the audience to receive the message or information disseminated, the right communication strategy is needed. This research uses CMC theory and circular communication planning model theory. Researchers use descriptive qualitative research methods to explain and describe research data obtained from the data collection process during research. And this research emphasizes observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation as an effort to obtain research data. The purpose of this research is to find out how the communication strategy of the @Komuntag Instagram account as an information media. This research seeks to find out how the communication or management strategy carried out by the admin and the Komuntag Instagram account management team. The results showed that based on the results of interviews with informants, it was found that the messages shared included announcements about lectures. Not only that, news content is also shared via Instagram with the aim of increasing traffic to the website of the Untag Surabaya Communication Science study program. The strategy explanation conveyed by the informants is based on existing experiences and realities related to how to manage Komuntag's Instagram account as an information medium.
