Abstract

Adolescence begins with rapid physical changes and dramatic increases in height, weight and changes in body shape. At this point there is an increase in abstract and idealistic thinking in adolescence that becomes the basis for the search for selfidentity. Adolescence is considered a period of storm and stress where it is a turbulent time that is charged with various problems and mood swings. Teenagers generally have a high curiosity so they often want to dabble, fantasize, feel uneasy, and dare to conflict if they are underestimated or not considered. Early adolescents are prone to self-injury because they tend to have difficulty controlling and regulating unstable emotions. A case of self-injury occurred in February 2021 at one of the schools in Sumenep Madura. It was recorded that approximately 45 junior high school students injured their wrists, arms and calves. One of the factors causing self injury is self esteem and low emotional regulation. The sample taken in this study was a total population of 120 young women in one of the schools in Sumenep Madura. This study is a quantitative study and was analyzed using a double regression test with the SPSS 16 IMB for Windows program. The results showed that there was a negative relationship between self esteem and emotional regulation with a tendency to selfinjury behavior. This means that the higher the self esteem and emotional regulation, the lower the tendency to self-injury behavior. Conversely, the lower the self esteem and emotional regulation, the higher the tendency to self-injury behavior.
