Abstract

In an era of technological advancements and increasing population growth, innovation in the field of agriculture has become crucial to meet the rising demand for food. The objective of the conducted research is to develop a design for an Internet of Things (IoT) based monitoring and controlling system for automatic irrigation and pest control in the rice seedling cultivation area. In the agricultural context of Indonesia, where rice is the staple food for the population, the availability of high-quality rice seedlings and protection against pests are important factors in enhancing production. However, farmers often face challenges in managing rice seedling cultivation, such as irrigation issues and pest infestations. In this research, the author builds an IoT prototype using soil moisture sensors to regulate automatic irrigation and a pest control system to ensure the quality growth of seedlings. The system aims to facilitate farmers in producing high-quality rice seedlings. The method involves utilizing the ESP32 microcontroller as the core of the system, along with various sensors to collect data and control the environmental conditions for rice seedling growth. The test results have shown that this system operates optimally and yields positive outcomes. The sensors provide accurate data and precise control actions. This prototype provides convenience for farmers in producing high-quality rice seedlings by regulating irrigation and protecting plants from pest attacks. With innovations like this, it is hoped that agriculture can effectively and efficiently meet the continuously increasing food demand.
