Abstract

Bojonegoro Regency is one of the regencies in East Java which is unique and thick with the cultures, one of them is the wayang thengul art. Wayang thengul was introduced as a regional icon by the Bojonegoro Regency Government as a typical Bojonegoro performing art that has been recognized by IPR (Intellectual Property Rights). The birth of modernization in society has more or less changed the people's perspective and lifestyle on culture due to the lack of motivation of the community, especially the younger generation, to preserve it. At present, there are only 30 artists behind wayang thengul in Bojonegoro, out of around 30 puppeteers only 2 people only master the technique of making wayang thengul. The existence of wayang thengul for the community has not been properly appreciated because in Bojonegoro itself there are very few special facilities to accommodate activities related to wayang thengul art. Most of the facilities are limited to the dalang's house which is also used as a training center. For this reason, it is hoped that this arts facility will later act as a forum for cultural educational tourism to provide upgrading (introduction, training, courses, additions to improve quality: abilities, knowledge, skills) on native localities (arts and culture) from Bojonegoro, especially wayang thengul itself. In addition, the intention of locality here and also reflects the implementation of designs that apply local traditions that are developed innovatively according to the theme/approach of Extending Tradition, a theme that focuses on preserving culture and traditions that have been almost forgotten where more use of various forms and building values in terms of local traditions which are then changed to follow modern building forms. The design concept includes the hermitage, framing, wailing, enclosing and preening. The result is that the design concept is suitable for the preservation of culture and traditions that have been almost forgotten, so that people can study existing cultural knowledge so that they instill a sense of pride in the culture in their area.
