Abstract

One of the arts in Indonesia is batik, where batik itself has been recognized by The United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and on October 2, 2009, batik has been designated as a cultural heritage originating in Indonesia. One example of the meaning of gedog batik can be used as a basis for using these motifs as an idea of form. The work is not only seen and used as a supporting element in the design. This study introduces several characteristics of gedog batik motifs that can inspire physical and non-physical designs. When viewed from the physical design, it depicts the iconic Gedog batik motif, and from a non�physical perspective, it contains the meaning of gedog batik. Contemporary architecture is a form of architectural work that is happening in the present. Konnemann. Contemporary Architecture is an architectural style that aims to express an architectural style, trying to create a real-separated situation from a non-uniform community. The characteristics and principles of contemporary architecture according to Ogin Schirmbeck (Schirmbeck, 1988) have the following principles, a sturdy building, expressive and dynamic compositions, an open concept of space, harmony of space that blends with outer space, has a transparent facade, pure comfort, element exploration structured landscaping area. The gedog batik motif has a variety of meanings and its own uniqueness where this gedog batik is one of the batiks that still retains its ancient streaks.
