Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between deindividuation and emotion regulation with behavior hate speech in generation Z social media users. The method used in this research is quantitative correlation with sampling technique incidental sampling. Subject in this study were 115 generation Z Instagram social media users aged 18-28 years in the city of Surabaya. Data collection was in the form of a deindividuation scale consisting of 20 items, an emotion regulation scale consisting of 19 items and a behavior scale hate speech which consists of 34 items and has been tested for validity and reliability. Data analysis using correlation test Spearman Rho. The results of the data analysis show that the deindividuation variable has correlation coefficient of 0.691 with significance value = 0.000 (<0.01), meaning that there is a significant positive relationship between deindividuation and behavior hate speech in generation Z social media users Instagram. Where, the higher the deindividuation possessed by generation Z, the behavior hate speech it will be even higher. Conversely, the lower the deindividuation experienced by generation Z, the lower the behavioral tendencies hate speech. Furthermore, the results of data analysis show that the emotion regulation variables have correlation coefficient of– 0.479 with a significance value = 0.000 (<0.01), meaning that there is a negatif relationship between emotion regulation and behavior hate speech. Where, the higher the ability of generation Z in emotion regulation Z then the behavior hate speech will get lower. Conversely, the lower the ability to regulate Z's emotions, the tendency of behavior hate speech the higher it is.
