Abstract

Ornamental plants are becoming increasingly popular in everyday life, and more and more people are interested in caring for indoor plants. However, the maintenance and monitoring tasks of ornamental plants can be challenging, especially for those with limited time or knowledge about plant needs. Therefore, in this research, we designed and implemented an Internet of Things (IoT)-based monitoring system for the snake plant to assist plant owners in the automatic maintenance and monitoring of plant conditions. This system utilizes soil moisture and air temperature sensors connected to the NodeMCU ESP8266 device. The sensors continuously monitor the soil moisture and air temperature around the snake plant. The data collected from the sensors is transmitted through a WiFi network to a Telegram bot, which can be accessed by users through the Telegram application. Users can view real-time soil moisture and air temperature data, as well as receive notifications if the humidity or temperature goes beyond the desired range. Additionally, the system is equipped with an automatic watering feature. Based on the collected soil moisture data, the system can control an automated watering device connected to a microcontroller. When the soil moisture drops below a predetermined threshold, the system will activate the watering device to automatically irrigate the plant. The system will be tested by measuring soil moisture and temperature levels in the snake plant for a week. The data analysis results will be compared to determine how well the system optimizes the environmental conditions for ideal soil and planting media.
