Abstract

This study aims to look at the perspective of parents on the behavior of children using social media YouTube and Tik-Tok. In today's digital era, children are increasingly exposed to social media which plays an important role in their lives. This research was conducted with the aim of providing an overview of parents' perceptions of children using YouTube and Tik-Tok social media at SDN Sidokepung 2 Sidoarjo. This study used a qualitative approach using in-depth interviews and observations of children from SDN Sidokepung 2 who were in grade 5. Social media influences the way children interact with peers, family, and the surrounding environment. Children adopt new behaviors such as modeling the behavior of influencers on social media, the influence of social pressure, imitating sentences and movements in shows, and increasing the tendency to compare themselves with others based on the images presented on social media. In addition, this study found that the use of social media can also have a negative impact on children's behavior. Children tend to spend more time in front of screens, causing a reduction in physical activity and in-person social interaction. They can also experience risks such as sleep disturbances, emotional disturbances, decreased self-esteem, and addiction to social media. In conclusion, this study highlights the significant role of social media in influencing changes in children's behavior. The results of this study provide better insight into how social media affects children in social and psychological aspects. The implications of this research are important for understanding how parents, teachers, and other stakeholders can help children develop critical understanding, sound digital skills, and positive coping strategies in dealing with the growing influence of social media.
