Abstract

This study aims to determine the role of the Indonesian sports media Bola.com in framing the coverage of the LGBT controversy at the 2022 Qatar World Cup OctoberNovember 2022 Edition. This study uses 2 theories to conduct research, namely the Robert N. Entman framing model approach with qualitative methods , and Theory of Mass Media Construction. The definition of Robert N. Entman's framing model is identifying problems (Problem Identification), looking for causes of problems (Causal Interpretation), looking for causes of problems (Make Moral Judgment), and solutions to problems (Treatment Recommendation). The theory of mass media construction is that the news conveyed by the mass media is the result of a construction of reality involving ideology or views from journalists and the media. The results of this study are (1) Bola.com frames the news of the LGBT controversy at the time the 2022 World Cup takes place between contestant countries and supporters or football fans with host Qatar which prohibits all activities related to LGBT (2) Media Bola. com does not fully assume that all the World Cup contesting countries carry out these activities (3) The media constructs incidents and polemics in accordance with developments that occur, so as not to raise suspicions from the wider community. (4) Several World Cup contestant countries that carry out LGBT activities are shown in quite a large portion apart from their playing in football which is highlighted, the views of several countries then FIFA and Qatar in their statement considered Bola.com to be able to provide perspectives and insights to the public regarding the polemic of the LGBT controversy that is currently rife during the 2022 World Cup.
