Abstract

Adjustment is a process of mental response and individual behavior to try hard to be able to overcome conflicts and frustrations due to inhibition of needs within oneself so as to achieve harmony and harmony between oneself and one's environment. This self-adjustment ability is needed by students who take part in the Independent Learning Campus Merdeka (MBKM) the first time they are put in the field. This study aims to determine the relationship between social skills and self-adjustment in students participating in the MBKM program. The hypothesis proposed is that social skills are positively correlated with self-adjustment in students participating in the MBKM program consisting of students, internships or teaching assistant work practices in research or research education units, humanitarian projects, entrepreneurial activities, independent learning or projects, building villages or Thematic Real Work Lecture (KKN-T). The method used in this research is correlational quantitative. The scale of social skills and self-adjustment is used as a measuring tool in this study. The subjects in this study were 144 Psychology students at the University of 17 August 1945 Surabaya class of 2019 Even Semester 2021/2022 who had participated in the MBKM program. The sampling technique is incidental sampling. The data in this study were tested with the Spearman' Rho correlation and the results obtained were that the social skills variable had a significantly positive correlation with the adjustment variable in students participating in the MBKM program. Based on the results of the research that students can improve social skills by participating in campus organizational activities both formally and non-formally, participating in committee activities, when speaking in a discussion or work meeting, asking for help and assistance without feeling embarrassed and adding relationships first to express opinions in study discussion Keywords: Social Skills, Self-Adjustment
