Abstract
The social construct in society often portrays women as being inferior, weak, and lacking autonomy over their own bodies, making them vulnerable to inappropriate treatment. Men are often perceived as always desiring sexual relationships, making it difficult to believe that they can be victims of sexual violence. These findings have piqued the researcher's interest due to the infrequency of acknowledging men as victims of sexual violence, despite the lower likelihood of sexual violence occurring against them. The objective of this research is to explore the perceptions of Communication Science students from 17th of August 1945 University Surabaya regarding gender equality in the case of singer Dikta's sexual violence on the Instagram account @lambe_turah. This study employs a descriptive qualitative research design to depict the perceptions of Communication Science students at Untag Surabaya. To describe the research problem, the researcher utilizes perception theory and gender theory. The results of this study indicate that in contemporary times, both men and women have an equal potential to engage in sexual crimes. It is necessary to implement gender equality in societal life to prevent discrimination against specific genders. Keyword: Perception, Sexual Violence, Gender
