Abstract

Corrosion events are an important problem for the failure of materials, especially in marine buildings, which are usually placed in corrosive environments. One effort to slow down the corrosion of the material is by coating or coating method. In this study, ASTM A36 type steel material was used with a size of 12cm x 6cm and a thickness of 10 mm for the adhesion test. Then use specimens of different sizes to test the corrosion rate using a size of 5 cm x 2.5 cm with a steel thickness of 10 mm. The reason for using this material is because ASTM A36 steel is often used as a marine building material for the manufacturing industry framework, etc. The method used for this research is by varying the blasting angle used, namely 30˚, 60˚ and 90˚ for a spraying distance of 30cm and a spraying time of 30 seconds. The coating process used is a mixture of epoxy and aluminum oxide. For a mixture of aluminum oxide with three variations, namely 10%, 20% and 30%. The results expected from this study are to get the effect of blasting variations and steel coating or epoxy coating with variations of aluminum oxide mixture on ASTM A36 steel on the adhesion strength test and Corrosion rate test by immersion or weight loss method against 15% HCI solution for 15 days.
