Abstract

One of them is by utilizing iron powder and coconut shell charcoal powder using powder metallurgy methods. All kinds of ways, from medium to high-end to lowermiddle companies. In this study using the powder metallurgy method which aims to determine the results of the analysis on the alloy of Iron (Iron Powder) -Coconut Shell Charcoal (Carbon) on density and hardness. At a compaction pressure of 7000 Psi, 8000 Psi, 9000 Psi with a holding time of 10 minutes. At sintering temperatures of 900℃, 1000℃ and 1100°C which has a sintering time of 90 minutes. From the results of the density test, the greater the compaction value given, the higher the density value. As in the alloy of iron powder – 2% carbon has an effect on the value of density and hardness. The greater the compaction given, the higher the density value. As in compacting 9000 Psi with a temperature of 1100 ℃, the highest average density value is 3.443 gr/cm³. As for the hardness value, the greater the compaction given, the lower the hardness value. Seen in compaction 8000 Psi with a temperature of 1000 ℃ has an average hardness value of 591.5 HVN. And the effect of temperature variations on Iron alloy powder – 2% carbon has an influence on the density and hardness values. The higher the temperature given the higher the density value. As in compacting 9000 Psi with a temperature of 1100 ℃. Likewise for the hardness value, the higher the temperature given the higher the hardness value. Seen at 7000 Psi compaction has an average hardness value of 731.3 HVN. It can be seen that compaction and sintering temperature greatly affect the density and hardness values.
