Abstract

The ease of expression on social media creates various problems, especially cyberbullying activities which are increasing, including on the Instagram social media platform. Therefore it is important to know how Instagram users view cyberbullying activities. Using a qualitative method with a descriptive approach to describe the views of informants through interviews, observation, and documentation. While testing the validity of the data using triangulation of data sources. This study aims to explore the views of Instagram users among communication science students at the University of 17 August 1945 Surabaya using the theory of perception which emphasizes that each individual sees and understands the world in a different way which is influenced by internal and external factors. Perception is also interrelated with a person's perspective of an object by using the senses they have and then trying to interpret it. The results showed that each informant had a similar understanding but had different ways of interpreting things based on their experiences and backgrounds. This conclusion shows the complexity of the cyberbullying phenomenon and the importance of a comprehensive understanding to overcome this problem according to the grand theory used in this study. The existence of this research is so that it can encourage collaboration between educational institutions, researchers, and social media platforms such as Instagram to increase the effectiveness of existing cyberbullying countermeasures and encourage further research by further researchers.
