Abstract

Public Relations is the spearhead of the National Police because carrying out a good public relations function will have a significant impact on the Police institution. In the current digital era, Public Relations is expected to be responsive to issues and be able to adjust technology so that they can control current opinions. This is because Public Relations plays an active role in serving the community by responding to public complaints through social media, online media, or mainstream media. In the study entitled "The Role of Surabaya Polrestabes Public Relations in Overcoming Negative Perceptions of the Surabaya Community towards the Police Agency After the Ferdy Sambo Case", the researcher used a qualitative approach and a descriptive type of research. This research will discuss how Public Relations of the Surabaya Polrestabes plays a role in overcoming the negative perceptions of the people of Surabaya towards the Police Agency using the two ways symmetrical model and situational theory of the public initiated by Grunig & Hunt. Researchers used data collection techniques through interviews, observation, and documentation and the data obtained would be analyzed using data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results showed that the Surabaya Polrestabes Public Relations carried out the public relations function well, such as providing updated information and synergizing with the media and netizens in terms of information dissemination so that information about positive police activities could be conveyed to the wider community. However, there are things that need to be improved and further enhanced by the Surabaya Polrestabes Public Relations regarding the division of tasks and authorities to be more systematic so that the public relations function can run more optimally.
