Abstract

Advances in technology are currently developing so rapidly that it makes it easier for everyone to obtain information quickly. The existence of online media in today's life has many positive and negative impacts, one of the negative impacts that currently often occurs is cyber bullying, cyber bullying is a form of violence on social media such as insults, ridicule, intimidation, or oppression carried out to someone via social media. The phenomenon of cyber bullying on social media is an action that cannot be controlled by the flow of the media, so it is considered a normal thing in social media. By conducting this research, they are interested in seeing the meaning of this cyber bullying phenomenon that has been studied by communication science students at the 17 August 1945 University of Surabaya in the cybercommunication course as a result of the existence of a new media today, so that the meaning of students will produce a varied meaning through what has been learned. in the previous course with the formulation of the problem of how to interpret Cyber bullying in Instagram Comments @rachelvennya for Communication Studies Students Batch 2019-2020 University of 17 August 1945 Surabaya. The purpose of this study was to find out the various meanings of Communication Science students regarding the phenomenon of cyber bullying on Rachel Vennya's Instagram. This research method uses a qualitative descriptive analysis with Stuart Hall's reception and uses an interpretive approach. The results of this study found three positions which according to Stuart Hall there are three positions of the audience in media, namely the dominant position of hegemony, the position of negotiation, and the position of opposition.
