Abstract

This research was held because it aims to find out from some of the perceptual communications that exist in Untag Communication Studies students class of 2018 who use the Tantan application in finding partners, or friendship relations with the perception process of Tantan application users and to find out some of the factors that hinder them from communicating in the use of this Tantan application. This research method used is qualitative research by taking several researchers who carried out persuasively direct interviews. The research subjects here are users of the Tantan application who are around the age of 20 to 30 years and are male and female in the Untag Surabaya Faculty of Communication Studies. This study conducted several face-to-face interviews to find out what they think in terms of communication. Data collection techniques in this study used direct interviews, observation and documentation with data analysis techniques using data display as a data presentation. Checking the validity of the data is based on some credibility with the technique of triangulation of sources and data directly. The results of this study indicate several communication patterns of Tantan application users, namely primary and secondary communication patterns. The process at the stage of social perception of each user of the Tantan application in looking for a partner or friendship starts from the orientational, affective, and good communication exchange stages with their communication partners through several messages. In this case there are communication inhibiting factors that occur, namely barriers from the sender of the message to the recipient of the message. With this the study concluded that not all informants were successful in getting real partners or friendships. Keywords: Perception Patterns, Finding a Match, Tantan Application
