Abstract

Transportation services have become one of the fiercely competitive industries in the world. Several large companies, including state-owned enterprises (BUMN), strive to showcase their capabilities in order to attract customers to their services. PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Daop 8 Surabaya, as well, continues to synergize in enhancing its positive image through the provision of user information. The need for information is crucial to understand the latest programs or policies implemented by the company. From this phenomenon, the researcher aims to understand the role of public relations as a public information provider. The research method employed is qualitative descriptive approach, utilizing data collection techniques such as observation, interviews, and documentation. This study yields satisfactory results, indicating that the Public Relations department of Daop 8 Surabaya successfully fulfills its role as a provider of public information. It is supported by data indicating that all forms of information disseminated directly or through the media are well received and accepted by the public, particularly service users. Therefore, the activities carried out by public relations in fulfilling their role are considered optimal and target-oriented. This research is expected to contribute to the development of Communication Science, particularly in relation to PR models. Therefore, it is hoped that the Public Relations department of Daop 8 Surabaya will continue to improve and fulfill its role more effectively in accordance with its duties and responsibilities.
