Abstract
The mass media has a significant influence on the development of fashion trends which are followed by most people who have the desire to appear trendy and fashionable. Instagram is one of the most widely used mass media to find fashion references. Alyara Hananda is an Instagram user who takes advantage of Instagram by sharing the fashion or outfit of the day she uses. The purpose of this study is to find out how the front stage is on Instagram social media @alyarahananda and the back stage is in Alyara Hananda's real life. The method used is qualitative method. Data collection was used through in-depth interviews, observation and documentation in the form of screenshots of Alyara's fashion posts on Instagram. Data analysis techniques used are data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. In this study, Erving Goffman's Dramaturgy theory is used, namely the front stage, back stage, and impression management. The results of the study show that on the front stage of Alyara Alyara Hananda wants to be seen as a fashionable or stylish person with both branded and non-branded clothing. Alyara Hananda also uses social media, especially her Instagram, to provide references and recommendations regarding the fashion or Outfit Of The Day (OOTD) she uses. In contrast, on the back stage, Alyara does not have much difference from what is shown on the front stage. Because on the back stage Alyara also uses a boyish style, and on the back stage Alyara doesn't always wear branded clothes, Alyara also prepares herself as best she can to be confident when taking photos or meeting other people without wearing a mask or covering her mouth. Impression management formed by Alyara Hananda is to achieve self-presentation. There are five general strategies, including ingratiation, self-promotion, intimidation, exemplification, and supplication.
