Abstract

CV Sembilan Bintang is a small industry that produces various types of wooden kitchen equipment. Currently, CV Sembilan Bintang has two production locations: the production area and the warehouse. The finished product warehouse is a former unused house owned by the company's owner. The problem faced by CV Sembilan Bintang is the need to relocate the finished product warehouse. This is because the former house building was not designed to be a warehouse, and as well as the separate location of the finished product warehouse from the production area, requires large material handling distance. To address these issues, improvements and facility layout designs need to be implemented optimally. Optimization is done by utilizing the available space and minimizing the distance of material movement in the production process of CV Sembilan Bintang. Consequently, it aims to minimize material handling costs. The results obtained from the proposed layout can reduce material handling costs by Rp10,866.99 per day compared to the previous cost of Rp21,917.22 per day. It also reduces total movement by 250,426 cm per day from the previous 520,936 cm per day and decreases the total time by 2,254.56 seconds per day from the previous 4,547.14 seconds per day. From the analysis of the “from to chart”, the drying area is located after the sanding department. Compared to the situation where the company does not relocate the drying area, the cost difference is Rp6,870,000. Considering this cost difference, there is no need to relocate the drying area. The proposed facility layout design can be implemented in CV Sembilan Bintang as it can reduce material handling costs by 50.42%. However, the company needs to allocate an additional cost of Rp13,903,200 for implementing the proposed facility layout design. Keyword: Facility Layout, material handling, SLP, FTC, ARC
