Abstract

This study aims to evaluate communication of TSOT Outbound trainers, using rhetorical theory analysis as a conceptual framework. This research was conducted with the aim of identifying the extent to which trainers apply rhetorical principles in delivering public speaking material. The research method used was observation and semi-structured interviews with trainers. The data obtained is then analyzed by referring to elements in rhetoric theory, such as invention, Arrangement, Delivery, Style, and Style. The evaluation results show that the trainer has applied most of the principles of rhetoric in his communication. In the invention element, trainers succeeded in developing relevant and interesting material for participants. In terms of Arrangement, the presentation of the material has been well arranged, following a clear and easy-to-understand flow. In terms of Delivery, trainers are able to convey clearly, smoothly and influence the interest of participants. The Delivery Style used is also in accordance with the characteristics of participants with and the purpose of the training. However, there are some shortcomings in the application of Style elements, where trainers tend to rely on presentation slides, so they lack a strong Style in delivering material. Based on these findings, it is recommended that trainers further develop the ability to remember and deliver material spontaneously, without relying on presentation slides. Further research can be conducted to dig deeper into the factors that influence the application of Style elements in trainer communication in the context of public speaking.
