Abstract

The adolescent development should have preparations in career planning according to their interests and abilities, equip themselves with useful knowledge and skills in order to achieve tasks at that stage of development. Therefore, it is important for adolescents to have a future orientation. Based on initial interviews at a Islamic boarding school in Sumenep, it was shown that students who were at the stage of adolescent and early adult development lacked future orientation. Learning experiences in the family school will affect future orientation's cognitive, motivational, and effective aspects. Adolescents in public schools and private public schools will have a different future orientation from those islamic boarding schools (santri). However, the initial survey conducted by researchers on students and students both pretending who pretend to be in Islamic boarding schools and those in public schools future orientation. One training that can be used to help improve future orientation is setting training goals. The subjects in this study were 20 students consisting of 10 santri and 10 non- santri who were given goal-setting training to improve future orientation. This research is an experimental research with one group pretest-posttest. Collecting data using a future orientation scale and testing data using Mann Whitney U Test and Spearman Rho. The results of hypothesis testing show that goal-setting training can effectively improve the future orientation of senior high school students and there is no difference in the future orientation of Islamic boarding school students and non-Islamic boarding school students.
