Abstract

This study examines the meaning of the audience about the Violent Scene in the film "The Night Comes For Us". This study uses a qualitative method with Stuart Hall's reception analysis theory, namely encoding-decoding. The film "The Night Comes For Us" was directed and scripted by Timo Tjahjanto. The film was rated as having high reach, realism, emotional impact and popularity. The author chooses Kesatriyan 41 Surabaya Youth as active audiences who interpret the contents of media messages in the form of scenes of violence in the film "The Night Comes For Us". The findings through in-depth interviews and documentation of informants argue that in the film "The Night Comes For Us" there are 3 informants who are included in the category of dominant hegemony, while there is only 1 informant who is included in the negotiation category, and there is only 1 informant who is in the negotiation category and opposition category. There are informants who argue that the film "The Night Comes For Us" also contains many reasonable and good scenes of violence using the original Indonesian martial art, namely Silat, while some are reasonable but want to add other subgenres besides the violent scenes themselves. , and there are also those who reject messages or do not accept scenes of violence that are too sadistic.
