Abstract

Assertiveness is ability to express feelings, opinions and disagree honestly without offending other people's feelings. Adolescents who do not behave assertively will have difficulty in socializing effectively with their environment and make adolescents fall into negative things. Factors that might affect level of assertiveness is family support and self-confidence owned by adolescents. This research aims to determine correlation of family support and self-confidence with assertiveness in adolescents. This study uses a family support scale, self-confidence scale and assertiveness scale. The data analysis technique used Spearmans Rho correlation with a sample of 2018 college students aged 18-21 years in the faculty of psychology at University of 17 Agustus 1945 Surabaya with 127 people. Results of data analysis showed the correlation coefficient by family support with Assertiveness was 0.406 with a value of p = 0,000 (≤ 0.05) indicating that there was a positive correlation family support and assertiveness, the meaning is higher family support received, then higher the level of assertiveness in adolescents. Furthermore, correlation coefficient self-confidence and assertiveness was 0.768 with a value of p = 0,000 (≤ 0.05) indicating that there is a positive correlation self-confidence and assertiveness, the meaning is higher the level of self-confidence, then higher the level of assertiveness in adolescents. Conversely, the lower family support and self-confidence, then lower the level of assertiveness in adolescents. Keyword: Family Support, Self-confidence, Assertiveness.
