Abstract
In the manufacturing industry mostly use steel for production activities. For example, steel is used as a mold, and as the main material, so there are various types of steel used in the manufacturing industry such aslow carbon steel which has a carbon content of up to 0.30%, medium carbon steel which has a carbon content of 0.30% - 0 .70%, and high carbon steel has a carbon content of more than 0.70%. Therefore there are several ways to make connections to the steel, one of which is using the SMAW welding method which uses an electric arc flame as a metal heater. This study with ST 37 material obtained the result that the E7018 electrode with a water cooling medium at 20℃ had the highest percentage of pearlite, namely 66% and had the highest hardness value, namely 64.37 HRC, while the E6013 electrode with a 40℃ vinegar cooling medium had a pearlite percentage. 53% and the lowest hardness value is 52.5 HRC. The results of the study showed that the cooling medium and the temperature of the cooling medium could affect changes in the structure and hardness value of ST 37 steel welded joints.
