Abstract

The research entitled “Narrative Analysis of Lesbian Representations in Film (Portrait Of A Lady On Fire)” was written to review what kind of lesbian message is depicted in film work. While the number of representations of lesbians in films has increased in recent years, the representation of lesbians in films is still far from accurate. Portrait Of A Lady On Fire succeeded in attracting the attention of the writer for research because it sees the struggle of lesbians presented that lesbian relations are positioned to be given a fighting space, builds a complex feeling, a similar phenomenon that represents the situation of marginalized groups such as lesbians in the reality of life. In this study, the findings of lesbian representation were generated through a narrative analysis of Tzvetan Todorov's model from the beginning, middle, and end plots, each of which has balance, disturbance, awareness of disturbance, efforts to correct disturbance, and reequilibrium stage. The film Portrait of a Lady on Fire which is included in the world category is depicted so that the storyline is divided into 3 parts, namely the beginning, middle, and end. As well as the use of relevant theories such as Performative Queer theory with data collection techniques carried out using observation and documentation.
