Abstract

Pada penelitian ini untuk mengetahui perubahan butir struktur mikro dan sifat mekanik dari material baja ST 42 dimensi 200 x 100 mm dengan tebal 10 mm dan menggunakan proses pengelasan SMAW (Shiled Metal Arc Welding). Penelitian ini menggunakan variasi temperatur normalizing 760˚C, 785˚C, 810˚C dan elektroda filler E 7018 berdiameter 3,2 mm. Hasil penelitian diperoleh yaitu pengaruh proses normalizing didapatkan penurunan terhadap nilai batas butir struktur mikro pada material baja karbon ST 42 dibandingkan material sebelum mengalami proses normalizing. pada daerah base metal material tanpa perlakuan normalizing mempunyai nilai batas butir sebesar 0,0067 mm dan pada material sesudah mengalami proses normalizing mempunyai nilai batas butir sebesar 0,0133 mm. Butir yang membesar mengakibatkan menurunnya nilai kekerasan pada material tersebut. Hasil pengujian kekerasan rockwell dapat diketahui bahwa nilai kekerasan pada material baja ST 42 tanpa perlakuan panas memiliki nilai kekerasan lebih tinggi pada daerah Base Metal dibandingkan material yang telah melalui proses Normalizing pada material tanpa perlakuan memiliki nilai kekerasan rata-rata sebesar 75,22 HRB dan 75,33 HRB. Pada pengujian tarik pada spesimen dengan pengelasan elektroda 2,6 di dapatkan nilai tegangan paling tinggi pada perlakuan normalizing suhu 810°C sebesar 41,40 N/mm² dengan regangan sebesar 13,75 % dan pada pengelasan elektroda 3,2 di dapatkan nilai tegangan dan regangan paling besar pada perlakuan normalizing suhu 760°C sebesar 50 N/mm² dengan nilai regangan sebesar 20 %.
