Abstract

Maduran District is one of the areas in the middle of Lamongan Regency, East Java. The area has a land area of 2,771 hectares with a population of 48,826 people in 2019 (BPS Lamongan district, 2019). Most of the people work as farmers, traders, and some make home industries or IKM, such as making cassava and sweet potato chips as snacks which are then marketed to stalls. Based on the results of field observations, IKM (Small and Medium Industries) experienced problems in the production process, namely the process of chopping raw materials which were still manual using hand tools/handtools, requiring a touch of technology in order to increase productivity in cutting the chip material. Based on these problems, a plan was made for the manufacture of a chopper machine for raw cassava chips to increase productivity and the manufacturing process by providing additional Conveyer Belt components with an Ultrasonic Sensor-based automatic drive system in the section where the pieces are cut in a horizontal position which is then forwarded to the channel to the container. From the results of the planning and calculations that have been carried out in the design of a cassava chopper machine using an automatic ultrasonic sensor-based conveyor system, the maximum force required to cut cassava is 58.8 N, the number of revolutions to achieve a cutting capacity of 120 kg/hour is 334 RPM , The torque at the disk rotation is 3.64 N/m, the driving motor is 0.25 HP, the diameter of the pulley used is 30 cm and 5 cm, the distance between the sensor and objects is 20 cm, the belt used is type A49, and the diameter The shaft used is 16 mm with a length of 25 cm.
